Below is a list of the issues of The Examiner in 1812 (Volume 5). If you click on any of these links you will be directed to a summary of the "Political Examiner" of that issue. This section offers the most sustained pieces in the journal that were written in-house. They were, with only a few exceptions, written by Leigh Hunt, signed with his pointing hand icon. It is noted if an article was not so signed. A few things to note: the issue numbers and numbers given to the "Political Examiner" are different, due to the fact that it was not published in every issue. The issue numbers appear on this page, the "Political Examiner" numbers head each summary. Pagination is continuous throughout the volume, and the page numbers for each "Political Examiner" are given below its title.
Even if one prefers to just look over the summaries of the articles, I strongly recommend that you first take a peek at the Prince Regent's entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Later George IV, the Prince Regent is one of the most recurrent targets in the pages of The Examiner. Their penchant for jabbing at the monarch resulted in the Hunt brothers' conviction and subsequent imprisonment for libel. The Prince's personal life, though never explicitly detailed in the pages of The Examiner is a constant topic of the writings within it.
Charles Lamb wrote an amusing poem about the portly monarch, "Prince of Whales."
May we also suggest that you persue some information on the history leading up to Catholic Emancipation in 1829; the Catholic question is a constant topic in The "Political Examiner." Below are a series of links that may offer useful background information:
